Thanks to MNM5150: Having seen both STP and Cage within this year, I was interested to see how things were changed up. I arrived at The Rave at around 8:15, towards the end of Fang Island's set. They were okay, kinda prog stuff. Crowd was not in to this band. Between bands, I discovered that a large part of the crowd had never even heard of Cage the Elephant. At 9, the band hit the stage, opening with "Dr. Dr. Dr." They blazed through 45 loud, energetic set, complete with a huge sing-along during "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked." During the last song, "Sabertooth Tiger," Matt Schultz jumped into the crowd and stood on the hands of those around him. In general, the crowd enjoyed the opener. At about 10:25, STP got on and busted into "Crackerman." Since I was at the infamous show in March, I kinda expected Scott Weiland to say something about it, but that never happened. They did, however, make up for it by putting on an hour and 45 minutes of a great show. During "Pretty Penny," Scott lit up a cigarette (interesting considering Wisconsin's smoking ban) and played maraccas. He seemed coherent, alert, and not at all intoxicated. It was refreshing to see them play so well together. Before one of the songs, during a jam, they did a short version of "Roadhouse Blues." The sound was solid for the venue, and the only screw-up was a ligting mess-up where during "Sex-Type Thing" they played the visuals for "Dumb Love" which wasn't played. On the whole, I felt that this was one of the better show's I've ever seen, and would reccomend anyone to see this show soon.
Thanks to kretzl: Amazing show. Loved the robe Scott had on to start things off. Setlist was the best I've seen in a good 13 years. I want to echo what others have said that Scott talk clear and concise and seemed to be totally sober. Everything he said was clear as can be. They all brought their A-game and it was a balls to the wall kick ass rock show. Thank you STP for a fantastic night!
Thanks to ejsme: Awesome setlist. A little disappointed that we didn't get "Jean Genie" like other shows but I think they just ran out of time. They totally redeemed themselves for the last Milwaukee show. Scott was definitely stone cold sober. It looked like all he drank was gatorade and tea. Sounded totally coherent. Looked great, happy, aware. His voice sounded great and he didn't really seem to mess up any lyrics or ramble nonsensically in between songs! Best I've heard him in a while. I also noticed that they all came on from the same side of the stage this time.
Scott made a comment/observation early in the show to Kretz. He said, "Is that was the same type of plexiglass kit that you played when we first started playing together?" Then he touched a drum and said "Very similar. Very John Bonham-like."
He also was playing maracas at one point and facing Kretz and they were smiling and kind of playing together. He also took his scarf off and put it around Dean's neck. They band seemed to all really be getting along so much better.
I wondered if STP was gonna mention what happened last time they were here. They didn't but Scott said something like, "You're always a great audience... ALWAYS." I don't know if that was his way of saying that we are a great audience even during not-so good performances or if I'm just reading too much into it.
I waited around after the show by the buses. Scott got on without saying much but did sign one guy's guitar in the doorway to the bus then quickly got on. He did smile very huge through the window of the bus. I could see inside the bus through the windshield for several minutes and, for what it's worth, I didn't see him grab a drink or anything right away. He looked like he was actually folding some clothes or something and some assistant lady opened up the refrigerator on the bus and I didn't see any alcohol in it.
I also got to briefly talk to Robert and I told him that it was a great setlist and I asked him why they aren't playing "Take A Load Off" considering that it's the current single. He said that it's too hard for Scott to sing. It's too high.
