Thanks to bshea2k5: It was a phenomenal show. They played a lot of great songs and sounded amazing from the center rail. The whole band was just....on. Scott sounded great and moved much better than the last time I saw them in 2008. The band was much more interactive despite a slightly lackluster crowd. I did hear a LOT of people complaining from the lawn that the Pavilion's sound system wasn't playing vocals outside of the pavilion, which is a definite problem, but not one that the band is responsible for.

They played a good mix of hits (Trippin, STT, Plush), concert staples (Crackerman, Wicked Garden), less known fan-favorites (Heaven & Hotrods, Still Remains, Pretty Penny) and covers (Dancing Days and the beginning of We Will Rock You). Oh and Dean gave me his guitar slide :)

Thanks to Zanedog: My first time posting here, but man this concert rocked. Feel bad for all of the lawn people, but I was in Section 3 row H which was the second closest row to the stage. Damn this concert was great, and just hearing them sing Dancing Days was worth it. Ive seen many concerts (GNR 3 times, Waters, Metallica, Aerosmith, ZZ top, Van Halen twice, AC/DC to name a few) in my 16 years, and this was one the most enjoyable of them all.

Thanks to andrewivanhayes: Sorry to those who were unable to hear very well... I was in Section 6 and the mix was phenomenal... By far the BEST modern day STP show that I have seen... next to the 1st club show following the 2008 Reunion at The State Theater in CLE.

SW and the boys were on fire tonight... I particularly enjoyed the SW rant regarding 'pre-recorded backing vocals'... It was very 2000-esque, in terms of well-spoken, wittiness... Made for a wonderful segwey into my personal favorite, "Wicked Garden"

Again, to those who were disappointed with the shortcomings of the venue's PA system... Thats really unfortunate, because tonight's show was one for the ages...

Thanks to hadmaq: The first 1 hr and 20 min of the set I didn't hear a single lyric. You could barely hear Scott even between songs when the band wasn't playing. It was like all of the instrumental versions of the songs. Then, right as we were getting ready to leave, they started playing Down and the vocals came through loud and clear. We got to hear a total of 5 songs with vocals...bummer. 2 before the encore and the 3 encore songs. They should fire the sound crew, i thought they had the mute on scott's channel and didn't realize it.

I talked to a few people in the pavilion and they didn't seem to notice. The lawn, however, had no vocals whatsoever. I've never seen half the lawn leave 50 min into the main bands set. I was just sitting up on the hill watching cars cars drive out of the parking lot. I felt bad for the band because without the lawn being involved it really did kill their momentum. It was also sad because the 5 songs the sound crew got right at the end sounded amazing.

I don't know who's fault it was, but I do know the guitar, bass, drums, and even robert's backing vocals were blasting, but scott's vocal was non existent. That tends to make me think something wasn't mixed right. Maybe they had a mix they didn't know they were responsible for because there is a whole different set of speakers on the lawn in addition to hanging stacks on either side of the stage. This is coming from someone who plays guitar in a band that plays clubs regularly and has run house sound for other rock bands before.

Thanks to ryannayr22: Fifth time i have seen the band and maybe one of the better shows. I cant disagree more with the sound. i was in sec 5 and could hear scott's vocals clear as day as well as the rest of the band. if you were in sec 4 or 9 the sound may have sucked. i was suprised scott addressed the lip syncing accusation and there was no doubt the words were coming straight from his mouth tonight. my only complaints about the show were cage the elephant's set was plagued with bad mix and for stp it was cinnamon and the long jams before unleashing some great songs. all in all a great show!

Thanks to Pittsburgh Post Gazette: Scott Weiland made the rock 'n' roll blooper reel earlier this week when he tripped off the stage in Cincinnati during the opening song "Crackerman."

Somehow, he didn't break anything, and somehow the vocals didn't miss a beat, prompting speculation that the Stone Temple Pilots frontman was fakin' it.

On Saturday at the First Niagara Pavilion the singer was sure-footed and ready to talk about it.

After the lead song, he put down the megaphone and said, "Quickly I would like to dispel a?? rumor that has spun its way around the interwebs that I am not singing the songs. There has never been a time," he said slowly and emphatically, "in the 25-plus years that I've been singing with these guys and others that I haven't not sung."

The assertion was a "travesty," he said and added, "We are a rock 'n' roll band... that performs LIVE."

That out of the way, the reunited Stone Temple Pilots went about the business of trying to keep a rowdy bunch of fans entertained with a set of 15-year hits and a new album that only a fraction of the people cared about.

It was a mixed success, partly because STP songs tend to stick to a rigid hard-rock formula -- at least the ones on this set list -- and partly because Mr. Weiland probably could have used an electronic trick or two to help on those vocals. He either didn't have the force he had in the early '90s or he wasn't high enough in the mix. At one point, a fan in the pavilion shouted "Turn your mike on!" His face was turning red and the veins in his neck were bulging, so he was certainly trying.

The DeLeo brothers??-- guitarist Dean and bassist Robert -- and drummer Eric Kretz had no problem cranking out the Zeppelinesque sound of STP on faves like "Wicked Garden," "Vasoline" and "Big Empty." Just as good was the grinding new single, "Between the Lines," that had Mr. Weiland chanting a chorus of "Remember when we used to take, remember when we used to take ... drugs?" (There were a number of people on hand who only had to remember the parking lot. That's a joke. Kind of.)

After a strong start, somewhere in the middle of the set, the energy sagged, under the weight of a handful of newer songs and a lackluster cover of Zep's "Dancing Days." For some reason the band also made the mistake noodling around between songs in what proved to be momentum-crushing breaks. As for Mr. Weiland, decked out in skinny black clothes, he'll never be confused with Mr. Warmth.

"[Expetive] awful quiet tonight ... What's going on, man?" he asked late in the set.

What was going on was that STP wasn't bringing it hard and consistent as the fans wanted it.

The band's low-key exist after "Sex Type Thing" -- before returning for the encore of "Dead and Bloated" and "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" -- sent too far many people to the gates.

If Stone Temple Pilots, who struggled for respect early on, are going to stake a claim as classic-rock headliners, they didn't make enough of a case Saturday night.

Thanks to SteelCitySpin: My initial impression has to be the same as everyone - what was up with the vocals? Was Scott not singing at all... or were the audio engineers asleep? Nobody could really hear any of the lyrics to the songs until well over an hour had passed in their set.
