Thanks to Winnipeg Free Press: The reunited Stone Temple Pilots served as the headliners and instantly got the crowd on side with old favourites Heaven and Hotrods, Crackerman, Wicked Garden and Vaseline.

Frontman Scott Weiland prowled the stage menacingly and was chatty between songs, even if he made no sense sometimes.

"Winnipeg, we are as far, far away from the south, depending on which country we're talking about," he said before introducing the new song Hickory Dichotomy as having the flavour of Louisiana or Mississippi.

Press time hit just over halfway through the band's 90-minute set during their Grammy-winning single Plush, which still holds up almost two decades later.

Thanks to The Winnipeg Sun: STP are almost worth the day-long wait. Almost. Sure, their 70-minute set — which opens with Heaven and Hotrods — is a little too short and a little too similar to the one they dished up in November at MTS Centre, from hits like Vasoline, Plush, Interstate Love Song and Sex Type Thing to the encore of Dead and Bloated and Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart. But at least they toss in three songs — Between the Lines, Huckleberry Crumble and Hickory Dichotomy — from their strong new self-titled disc. And Weiland, who arrives in a red fedora to match his tie, is in entertaining form, moving around a lot more than he was last year and jabbering affably (at one point, he seems to admit he has no idea what country he's in). All in all, they put a pretty decent cap on a so-so day. As for next year: Unless organizers can come up with some bigger, better and fresher bands, we can do without a Rock on the Range threequel, thanks.
