Went to the show on Novarock, because I absolutely love the band and exactly 10 years from now I played and sung Plush for my school leaving examination, so I consider myself as huge fan.
The thing was, even SKA-P - talented band from Spain - was booed from a bunch of Rammstein fans, and so were the STP. Imagine Scott singing to a crowd of skinheads (although Rammstein doesnt aim to attract Nazis, they certainly do), and they were showing middle fingers and shouting to leave.
I felt like my favourite band in Nazi land, in Austria. Damn. For this, I have to say: a big mistake to have them played before Rammstein but every band might have struggled here.
Another guy just came to see the STP and jumped around at mosh pit area / in front of stage. More and more skins pushed him around, so I found my purpose in saving the guys ass and getting between them. Not my best idea, as I got a slight concussion from this, but anyway.
I didnt notice Scott messing up some lyrics, but over all I found it was a satisfying performance. With Scott and his funny way to dance, that seemed queer to people and costed sympathies. I would say 20% of idiots requesting Rammstein, 2% of fans, 30% of people nodding and liking it, the rest undecided because no movement was going through.
The last day Alice in chains played, that was cool and they got a better response. Maybe it were the extreme temperatures on friday, or the fact that STP didnt play shows in austria and are not really known.... definitely the stupid idea to let them play before Rammstein... but I wanted it to be excellent and it was just ok. Like Smashing pumpkins on novarock 08, also a must see, but without the great response of audience. So my hypothesis is, a band that stays away too long has to fight back to top and wins symapthies. *so... wishing the band a better audience for next concerts- hoping Weiland isnt returning to drugs from that- hoping as well they play again in austria (I apologize, we are not a bunch of nazis...!) and a better end then start in europe*

Before that, on the "Red Stage" including Kate Nash and Sportfreunde Stiller unplugged provided for splashes of color. Stone Temple Pilot, grown up in the grunge and returned with their self-record comeback to the top of U.S. charts drove in front of huge crowds to hard rock. Scott Weiland, they received "only" dependent on alcohol, sang brilliantly through a set list of classics and current material. The sound matched the caliber of musicians and harmonized "Plush" and "Vaseline" have a timeless fascination. The good news about that "Between the Lines" from the new CD the other hand, not dropped
Thanks to Krurier: The grunge hero to Scott Weiland have before Rammstein on the Blue Stage. It is not easy to ensure the large amount of waiting Rammstein fans to convince to do something to loose from the saved up for the next concert energy to Amiband. Under "Rammstein" Call end their presumably well-paid a flying visit to Austria. Too bad about the unworthy "Vorbandplatzierung" in the line-up, with the new album, "Stone Temple Pilots" they deliver a successful comeback.

Was der Auftritt der von mir mit Vorfreude erwarteten Stone Temple Pilots sollte, würde ich Scott Weiland gerne fragen, nachdem der selbigen aber sowas von in den Sand gesetzt hatte. Gerade bei dieser Band war meine Vorfreude um so größer, rauften sie sich nach ihrer Trennung vor ein paar Jahren nun doch wieder zusammen, nachdem ich sie schon unter "Schade, nie live gesehen" abgehakt hatte.
Als sie während smoothen Lounge Gegniedels die Bühne betraten und die Stimmung im Publikum etwas eigenartig bis ignorant war, mag das vielleicht auch an Rammstein-Fans gelegen haben, die eben nichts anderes hören wollten. Nicht unbedingt nett gegenüber all jenen, die wegen der Stone Temple Pilots da waren, als mit "Gasoline" das Set allerdings eröffnet wurde, wollte ich erst meinen Ohren nicht trauen, denn das wollte man nicht hören. Sobald Herr Weiland mit dem "Gesang" einsetzte, war nicht nur meine Vorfreude vorbei, ich war regelrecht entsetzt. Mit Ausnahme einiger kurzer Lichtblicke konnte man das als gequälten Versuch singen zu wollen bezeichnen und teilweise waren die Töne ganz einfach daneben.
Die Ursache dafür kann man nur vermuten, wenn ein Sänger sich aber wankend am Mikrofonständer fest hält und teils unverständliche bis lallende Ansagen macht, kann man sich zumidnest einen Reim darauf machen. Im Gegensatz dazu die Band, die äußerst druckvoll spielte, die ersten paar Sekunden jedes Songs waren aber eben nur bis zu dem Moment gut, als Scott Weiland da irgendwas zu singen versuchte. Der tänzelte noch dazu auf der Bühne herum wie eine Ballerina und kam sich bei all dem offensichtlich noch ganz großartig vor. Die Krönung war dann der Versuch, das Mikrofon an einer Stelle ins Publikum zu halten, als es da nicht wirklich etwas zum mitsingen gab.
Robert DeLeo (Bass), Dean DeLeo (Git.) und Eric Kretz (Schlagzeug) konnten einem schon irgendwie leid tun und man vermeinte es ihren Mienen auch anzusehen, das da etwas ganz und gar daneben lief. Am Ende besserte sich das mit Weilands Stimme zwar ein wenig, beim vorletzten Song "Dead and Bloated" kam allerdings wieder der stimmliche Absturz, was ich mir dann wirklich nicht mehr länger antun wollte. Die Stone Temple Pilots könnten wirklich verdammt gut sein, ja sie hätte sogar manche der Rammstein-Fans für sich gewinnen können. Mit einem nicht ganz auf der Höhe scheinenden Scott Weiland kann das allerdings nichts werden.
